Montine of Switzerland Manual Wind Watch — 1970s Gold-Tone Elegance, Sold Naked
Here at Bezel & Hide, we believe a great watch speaks for itself — and this Montine of Switzerland does exactly that. A charming piece of 1970s Swiss horology, offered as a naked sale: no box, no papers, just a genuinely characterful vintage watch priced to reflect its condition and age, ready to be worn and enjoyed.
About the Montine of Switzerland
Montine was a Swiss watch brand that produced well-made, mid-market timepieces during the golden era of Swiss watchmaking in the 1960s and 1970s. While not a household name today, Montine watches were built with genuine Swiss movements and solid construction — making them excellent value for collectors and everyday vintage wear enthusiasts alike. This example is a fine representative of that era: honest, well-specified, and full of period charm.
Design & Dial
The watch features a beautifully proportioned cushion-shaped case in gold-plated metal, with a distinctive angular profile that is very much of its 1970s moment. The silver sunburst dial is clean and uncluttered, with applied gold-tone baton hour markers and matching gold-tone hands — including a slender seconds hand. A date window sits neatly at the 3 o'clock position. The dial reads "Montine of Switzerland — 25 Jewels — Incabloc", confirming its Swiss credentials. The watch is fitted on a black leather strap that complements the gold case nicely.
Movement
Inside beats a Swiss manual wind movement with 25 jewels and Incabloc shock protection — a respected anti-shock system used by many quality Swiss manufacturers of the period. Manual wind movements of this era are robust and serviceable, and this one winds and runs as it should and keeps time to around a minute over a 24 hour period. As with all vintage watches, we recommend a service if you intend to wear it daily. The case back is a stainless steel screw-back, providing good protection for the movement.
Condition
This watch is in Good Vintage Condition. The movement winds and runs correctly. The dial is in pleasing condition with no major damage — the silver sunburst surface presents well. The gold-plated case shows honest age-related wear consistent with a watch of this vintage, including light surface marks and some wear to the plating on the case edges and lugs — all entirely expected and part of its character. The crystal has some light surface scratches visible under close inspection. The leather strap shows wear and may benefit from replacement. Overall, a very presentable vintage piece that wears well on the wrist.
