About the Swatch Grand Prix SCJ101

The Swatch Chrono range of the early 1990s represents the brand at its most audacious — Swiss quartz precision wrapped in pop-art design, priced for the masses but built to last decades. The Grand Prix SCJ101, released in 1992 (dial copyright marked © SWATCH AG 1992), takes its inspiration directly from the world of motorsport: the tachymeter bezel, the sub-dial layout, the gold-tone accents, and that unforgettable multi-coloured dial all evoke the energy of the race circuit. These early Swatch Chronos are increasingly sought-after by collectors of 90s design and vintage Swatch alike — and the SCJ101 is one of the more distinctive references in the lineup.

Design & Dial

The dial is a spectacular motorsport-inspired multi-colour design — a deep blue centre surrounded by a gold/yellow tachymeter ring and outer white and black tracks. Three white sub-dials handle the chronograph functions (12-hour, minutes, and 1/10-second / small seconds), with gold-tone hands and markers throughout. The distinctive text hour markers — “TWELVE”, “EIGHT”, “FOUR” — are a hallmark of this reference and give it an unmistakably bold graphic character. The case is translucent / clear-tinted blue-grey plastic, measuring 36.9mm in diameter with a 42.0mm lug-to-lug. Case thickness is approximately 10.7mm. The crystal is flat plastic. Two gold-tone chronograph pushers flank the crown on the right side of the case.

Movement

Powered by a Swiss ETA Quartz Chronograph movement with 22 jewels — a robust and reliable calibre that underpins many of the finest Swatch Chronos of this era. Running on a 394 / SR936SW (1.55V) battery. Water resistance: 3 ATM / 30 metres. Country of Origin: Switzerland — Swiss Made.

Condition

This Swatch Grand Prix presents in Very Good pre-owned condition. The watch is fully functional — the quartz movement runs accurately and all three chronograph functions operate correctly. The translucent plastic case and bezel show light signs of age consistent with a 30+ year old piece but present well overall. The stainless steel flex bracelet is in Good condition — it retains its stretch and wears comfortably, with some minor surface wear and light scratching on the links consistent with honest use over the years.
