About the Seiko Recraft Solar Chronograph

Seiko needs no introduction. Since 1881, they've been making watches that punch well above their price point — and the Recraft collection is a perfect example. Drawing on a heritage of robust Japanese watchmaking, the Recraft Solar Chronograph combines a striking monochrome aesthetic with Seiko's Eco-Drive-rivalling solar technology: the Calibre V176, which charges continuously from any light source and holds a reserve of up to six months in complete darkness. Reference SSC385 is the stealth variant — full black IP coating on solid stainless steel, offset by warm gold-tone markers and hands that give the whole thing a premium, almost dress-sport character. It's a versatile watch that reads as both tool and statement.

Design & Dial

The dial is deep matte black with a subtle gradient, populated with faceted gold-tone baton index markers and a bold gold-tone Arabic "12" at 12 o'clock. Three sub-dials sit at 12 o'clock (1/20th-second chronograph hand), 9 o'clock (continuous running seconds), and 6 o'clock (elapsed minutes up to 60). A date window sits neatly between 4 and 5 o'clock. Lumibrite-treated hands and markers deliver solid low-light legibility. The fixed black ion-plated bezel has a subtle ridged texture and a triangular pip at 12. The case measures 44.9mm in diameter, 12.3mm thick, with a 22.1mm lug width and 51.0mm lug-to-lug — a substantial but well-proportioned sports watch. This example is fitted with a satin-finish black IP stainless steel bracelet — an aftermarket replacement fitted after the original leather strap deteriorated — with a fold-over deployant clasp. The bracelet is in excellent condition and suits the watch's aesthetic perfectly.

Movement

Powered by the Seiko Calibre V176 — a Japanese solar quartz chronograph movement that never needs a battery. It charges from any natural or artificial light source and holds a power reserve of up to 6 months on a full charge. Accuracy is ±15 seconds per month. The hacking function stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out, allowing precise time-setting. Water resistance is 10 Bar / 100 metres — suitable for swimming and snorkelling.

Condition

Graded Very Good. The watch is fully functional — the solar movement is running perfectly, the chronograph operates correctly across all sub-dials, and the crown and pushers function as expected. The solar cell is active and charging. The case and bracelet present well with no major damage.
