Seiko 8222-6040 Octagonal Quartz Watch

Here at Bezel & Hide, we believe a great watch speaks for itself. This January 1982 Seiko brings together an elegant blue dial, a distinctive gold-tone octagonal case and a slim profile. It is a characterful alternative to the usual round dress watch, offered at an honest market price for this model.

In very good pre-loved condition, especially considering its age, this example works perfectly and is fitted with the black textured strap shown. The strap has visible wear, which is described below and photographed clearly.

About This Seiko

This Seiko combines a restrained dress-watch layout with a more adventurous case shape. The eight-sided outline gives it an unmistakable identity, while the narrow hands and uncluttered dial keep the overall appearance elegant rather than bulky.

Dating to January 1982, as identified by Bezel & Hide, it offers a distinctive piece of early-1980s design. The caseback carries the corrected 8222-6040 reference, identifying the movement and case combination.

Design & Dial

The deep blue dial shifts in tone across the photographs, appearing brighter blue in some lighting and darker, almost inky, in others. Gold-tone baton hour markers complement the case, with a Roman XII at 12 o’clock providing a traditional detail.

A fine circular railway-style track sits inside the hour markers, interrupted by the date window at 3 o’clock. Slender gold-tone hour and minute hands, a fine central seconds hand and the Seiko Quartz lettering complete the balanced layout.

The gold-tone octagonal case has a brushed bezel face, brighter reflective edges and small circular recessed details around its perimeter. Slim projecting lugs and a neatly proportioned crown give it an elegant side profile.

The supplied caliper photographs indicate approximately 32.5mm case width, 38.2mm lug-to-lug and 7.7mm thickness. These are photographed measurements rather than verified manufacturer specifications. The strap measures approximately 18mm across in the photograph.

The fitted black textured strap has a fine scale-pattern finish and a gold-tone pin buckle. Its originality and exact material are unconfirmed.

Movement

Powered by a Seiko 8222 quartz movement, with central hours, minutes and seconds, plus a date display.

The watch is reported to be working perfectly at the time of listing. No claim is made about present-day water resistance.

Condition

Very good pre-loved condition for its age. The blue dial and gold-tone case present attractively, with surface marks and signs of previous use visible on close inspection. The caseback also shows scratches and retains an actual sticker, as pictured.

The strap shows visible wear, including creasing and wear around the adjustment holes and edges. It is supplied as photographed and is not described as new.

As with all pre-loved watches, other small marks or imperfections may be visible upon close inspection of the photographs — please study every image carefully before purchasing.

As a watch dating from 1982, marks, scratches and wear may be present on all surfaces after decades of ownership. Please study every photograph carefully, and get in touch before buying if you have any questions about condition, dimensions or fit.
