Oris Wrist Alarm Limited Edition — A Rare Opportunity to Find One in This Exceptional Condition, Sold Naked

Here at Bezel & Hide, we believe a great watch speaks for itself. This is one of those watches. The Oris Wrist Alarm in reference 418-7451-63 is a genuinely rare piece — a limited edition of just 1,600 examples worldwide, produced in 1992 at the height of Oris's independent watchmaking renaissance. This example, number 0297, presents in exceptional condition that is extraordinarily difficult to find after 34 years. It is offered at an honest market price for this model — just a great watch, honestly priced.

About the Oris Wrist Alarm Limited Edition

Oris has been crafting independent Swiss watches since 1904, and 1992 represents a golden era for the brand — a period of focused, mechanical watchmaking before the industry's mass-market drift. The Wrist Alarm was produced as a numbered limited edition of just 1,600 pieces worldwide, celebrating Oris's heritage in mechanical complication watchmaking. It shares its DNA and spirit with the beloved Oris Automatic Pointer Date — a sister reference from the same peak era — and carries the same quality of construction and collector appeal.

With its dual-crown architecture — one crown to wind and set the time, one to set the alarm — this is a functional, mechanical alarm watch of real character. Finding one in this condition, with the alarm still working correctly after more than three decades, is genuinely exceptional. Edition number 0297 of 1,600 is engraved on the caseback, making this a fully verifiable example.

Design & Dial

The dial is a silvery-cream tone with a beautifully even, aged patina — no damage, no fading, no corrosion. It is framed by a full outer minute track chapter ring and an inner alarm chapter ring, both crisp and legible. Hour markers are applied gold-tone arrow/pennant indices at the quarter positions, with Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. The sword-shaped hour and minute hands are gold-toned, and the red alarm hand — arrow-tipped — is vivid and correct. The dial carries the full period text: ORIS · WRIST ALARM · 17 JEWELS · ANTISHOCK · SWISS MADE.

The standout visual feature is the solid 18kt yellow gold fluted coin-edge bezel, which frames the dial with unmistakable warmth and presence. Look closely and you'll spot “ORIS” stamped into the bezel at 6 o’clock — a period-correct authentication detail that speaks volumes about the quality of this reference. The stainless steel case measures 34.2mm in diameter with a 41.3mm lug-to-lug length and 18mm lug width, in polished excellent condition. The dual-crown setup sits neatly on the case side, both crowns intact and fully functional.

Movement

Powering this watch is the Oris Calibre 418, a manual-winding mechanical movement built on the celebrated A. Schild AS 1930 mechanical alarm architecture. The calibre features 17 jewels and Antishock protection. The watch is currently running with good timing and the alarm is fully operational — both functions confirmed working correctly. As with all manual-winding watches, it requires daily winding via the main crown. The caseback reads: ALL STAINLESS STEEL · SHOCK RESISTANT · WATER RESISTANT.

Condition

This example is graded Excellent. The dial is clean and undamaged with even, attractive patina entirely consistent with a 1992 watch that has been carefully owned. The solid 18kt gold bezel retains its fluted coin-edge detail beautifully. The polished stainless steel case shows only very light surface marks consistent with careful previous ownership. Both crowns are intact and operate correctly. The watch is running and timing well; the alarm triggers and functions as intended.

The original Oris genuine leather strap — brown crocodile-grain, stamped “ORIS 5 18 52” on the underside with the Oris-branded stainless steel pin buckle — is in great condition for a 34-year-old example. An impressive survivor.

As with all pre-loved watches, other small marks or imperfections may be visible upon close inspection of the photographs — please study every image carefully before purchasing.
