About the Mondia

Mondia was a Swiss watch brand with roots in quality mid-market horology, producing well-built manual and automatic movements throughout the mid-twentieth century. Often overshadowed by the big Swiss names, Mondia pieces represent exceptional value for collectors who appreciate honest, well-made vintage Swiss watchmaking without the premium price tag. This example is believed to date from circa 1969–1974 — a golden era of Swiss watchmaking before the quartz revolution changed everything. Reference 03 0160 81 — stamped vertically on the caseback — places this firmly in that era of confident, characterful Swiss design.

Design & Dial

The dial is a real highlight: an off-white / silver sunburst finish that catches the light beautifully, populated with raised and applied faceted rectangular block hour markers, each featuring a distinctive central red/burgundy contrast stripe — a period detail that gives the watch real visual punch. The baton-style hour and minute hands echo the same red central accent, and a thin, elegant sweeping seconds hand completes the trio. "MONDIA" sits proudly beneath the brand's logo at 12 o'clock, with "SWISS MADE" printed at the base of the dial below 6. The overall effect is clean, purposeful, and unmistakably vintage.

The case is a cushion-shaped body measuring 35.0mm across (excluding crown), with a lug-to-lug distance of 40.0mm and an 18.1mm lug width — perfectly suited to an 18mm strap. The case construction features a stainless steel caseback with a mixed base metal/steel cushion body, and the screw-down caseback is fitted with 6 notch openings for a case opener wrench. The caseback is stamped "Waterproof," "Incabloc," "Antimagnetic," and "Swiss" — a full suite of vintage Swiss quality assurances. The watch is currently fitted on a navy, white and red striped G10 strap which is included in the sale.

Movement

Powered by a Swiss manual wind movement, this Mondia requires a daily wind — a ritual that connects you to the watch in a way no automatic or quartz piece can replicate. The movement benefits from Incabloc shock protection, a Swiss-designed spring-loaded system that guards the movement against accidental knocks, and is stamped antimagnetic for everyday resilience. We have timed this movement and it is performing to approximately ±1 minute per 24 hours — a very respectable result for a vintage manual wind of this age. The caseback is stamped "Waterproof," though as with all vintage pieces, water resistance can no longer be guaranteed and we recommend keeping it away from water. The winds and runs as it should.

Condition

This Mondia presents in Good pre-loved condition for its age. The dial retains excellent clarity with no significant marks or damage — the sunburst finish and applied markers look crisp. The case shows light surface wear consistent with honest vintage use, and the crystal has minor age-appropriate marks. The movement runs well.
